Spring into Action: Pick your own Strawberries
The heat wave has picked up the pace on the farm, and we have exciting news. The harvest is starting to roll in. Farming is a community project here at The Hickories and to that end...
PICK YOUR OWN STRAWBERRIES: Opening this Saturday 10am-6pm. We will keep the patch open seven days a week until the berries are gone. They are ripe now and they will go quickly, so don't wait too long: strawberries have a notoriously short season. Bring your family and enjoy a day in the sun with delicious rewards. We will have containers here but feel free to bring a bucket or two. When you visit the farm, park by the barns and follow the dirt farm road on foot to the strawberry patch. Organically raised strawberries are a rare treat in this part of the world. A day on the farm is a fun adventure, too. And don't forget, after strawberries come blueberries in July!
OUR STAND ON LOUNSBURY ROAD IS OPEN SEVEN DAYS A WEEK: Open 10:30-7pm. All are welcome to come and taste the first of this year's harvest. Fresh lettuces, sweet strawberries, scallions, rainbow swiss chard and more. The chickens are happily marching around in their pasture by the roadside stand and their eggs have all the healthy nutrients of the fresh spring grass.
OUR FIRST RIDGEFIELD FARMERS MARKET IS TOMORROW, June 13th: Fridays from 3pm-6pm in the center of Ridgefield, 88 Danbury Road. Come visit us there to show your support for eating local organic food! This is a new venture for us and we are really excited to be a part of it.
VOLUNTEER DAY THIS SATURDAY: This Saturday 9am-12pm. Bring your wheel barrows, bring your your shovels, bring your garden rakes and chip in to make this season's harvest a success. We are looking forward to working with you and giving you a real taste of farm life. Feel free to bring a picnic to relax in the peach orchard after your work is done.
See you soon! Enjoy these beautiful last days of Spring.
All the best,
Dina Brewster and Rob Kelly
