What you will need to get started...
Dina
Before you pick up your chicks you need to have:
a good size cardboard box (no drafts)
a heat source/ light bulb pointed over it that allows you to heat that box to 80 degrees.
The chicks will need warmth most of all at the beginning. Use a thermometer to ensure your light is strong enough but not too strong. You can get a heat lamp at the hardware store, but it is optional - a strong bulb will provide a lot of heat. Lay the themometer on the floor of the box and check the temperature. Adjust the height of the light until you can heat the area under the lamp to 80 degrees exactly. You will lower the temperature in the box each week by five degrees.
When you come to pick up the chicks, bring a shoe box with a cloth or rag on the bottom of it - and make sure the car is warm.
We will provide:
three chicks
chick feed
feeder
waterer
some initial dry shavings for the flooring
instructions
Take your chicks home, set up the box and post a picture of their new home on the messageboard for all to enjoy!
