Mickey Mouse vs. Tweety
martha
Thanks for the pointers Dina! We were thinking of the basement as the location for our brooder box. If...hypothetically..one had seen evidence in the past of mice in their basement but thinks they have been eradicated, how might one...hypothetically....be sure the space is secure of said varmints for our precious little peepers? Or should one clear out the guest room instead of the basement? Thanks, The Morris Family

Mice v. Big nasty barn rats
Perhaps I was overly alarming. Mice generally are not going to bother chicks - rats will. Okay, confession... we have sometime seen barn rats around here, and that's really what I meant. You... hypothetically... don't have those. :--) Some people put a screen on the box top with rock on it at night to keep mice out (sometimes they are drawn to the chick food.) My only other caution is that basements can be damp and cold and dark - and if yours is that, maybe consider a warmer drier location for the first week or two.
