Chick Chick Here!!

Hi Everyone-

Cataldo brooders here! We already are attached to the chicks! The kids are fascinated by them and they each have there own markings and personalities. We have named them Brownie, Rambo, Benedict (first name Eggs), and Chickie.

One word of caution...we are using the box that holds a ream of paper as it was the most hardy. However, one of the chicks has already flown up and was found sitting on the top of the box!! So I had to grab a screen from the basement to be sure they could not get out from the top of the box. Good thing the chick did this while we were in the room. So do not think they are so little that they cannot fly because they can!

Awesome posting!

Your photos and comments made my day! I hope everyone reads the warning about the chicks flying up on the box! I had NO IDEA they would do that. (Sorry - a little new at this foster care preparation myself, too, myself.) Good instincts with the screen!

I admit to having a little pang as I looked at the empty nest on my desk last night when the last chicks left the brooder. It does my heart good to see them settled to well into their new homes!

We had a near-escape too!

My son and I heard quite a ruffling of feathers and when we went to check, one of our new little friends had hopped up on the water holder and was perched on the edge of the box. I quickly helped her find her way back in and we too dug a screen out of the basement. As they get bigger, will they get even more active in terms of trying to escape?
