Job Opportunities at The Hickories

Tomato RowsWe recognize that one crucial step in preserving farms and local food is to preserve and sustain current and future farmers.  There are several employment, training, and volunteer opportunities at our farm.  We have tried to tailor each to varying levels of skill.

Farm Stand Manager: Our summer farm stand is in need or some organization and leadership.  The Farm Stand manager will take charge of scheduling and training all farm stand employees in addition to working at least two shifts a week for July and August.  $10.00/hour. Experience working at the farm stand is preferable.

Farm Stand Employee: Employee will do simple farm chores and also be in charge of opening, stocking, restocking, record keeping, selling, maintaining, and closing the farm stand.  Two shifts daily 10am-2pm and 2pm-6pm.  $9.00/hour. You must be energetic, outgoing and organized. No experience necessary.

Volunteer (office):  For those who want to participate in the daily workings of a small organic farm but are not physically up to the field labor, we can always use help in our office: book-keeping, data-entry, errands, orders, etc.

Volunteer (field): Calling all able bodied, energetic, happy farmers or farmers to be!  If you are able to make a consistent commitment to a weekly shift in the summer, we love training and capturing new interest in organic farming.  Field volunteers help to bring in the harvest, manage crop planting and health (that’s seeding and weeding), and can even get involved with the animal chores.  In the past our volunteers have stayed for the duration of May-October and enjoyed the eye-witness on the ground education that comes with seeing the seasonal changes on an organic farm.
